Job Description: This is a six-and-a-half week summer position for those who want a high intensity introduction to paralegal work in criminal defense. Paralegals are an important part of the defense team. They review discovery, collect electronic evidence, analyze facts, organize documents and facts in databases, prepare summaries for witness meetings, and develop timelines, charts or other visual representations of facts for use in court or other proceedings. This summer bootcamp is designed to introduce you to some of the necessary computer programs and tools of the paralegal, immerse you in the case work, and train you to become an effective paralegal on your own. Expect long hours at the computer learning programs and entering data, intermixed with trainings, case meetings, watching hearings in court, and meeting with attorneys. Office hours are 8:30-5:30 but additional time may be needed to master necessary computer skills.

Requirements: 
Candidates should have excellent communication and writing skills, the ability to organize and analyze complex facts, a high degree of facility with computers, and a demonstrated interest in social justice. Strong work ethic, reliability, and discretion required. College degree preferred. Spanish language proficiency a plus.
Duties: 
You will be trained in and expected to use some or all of the following: Excel Adobe Casemap dtSearch Litigation platforms such as ipro Eclipse, Relativity, and Recommind.
Salary and Benefits: 
Salary: $4,500. This is an at-will, temporary appointment with no health benefits. Candidates may be subjected to a background check. Legal status in the U.S. required. Bi-weekly paychecks are by direct deposit only.
