The Federal Public Defender for the District of Oregon is accepting applications for a Personnel Administrator to be based in its Portland Office. The Federal Public Defender provides quality defense services in federal criminal cases and related matters in the federal courts.

Requirements: 
The successful applicant must have (1) excellent oral and written communication skills; (2) at least three years of specialized experience that includes experience as a personnel manager; (3) skill, judgment, and professionalism in the analysis of personnel management issues; (4) and some knowledge of criminal defense. Must be a self-starter, efficient, dependable and have excellent organizational skills. The applicant must work well under pressure and have the skills to resolve conflict and work amicably with teams of attorneys and staff. Professionalism and a commitment to the defense of indigent criminal clients is expected. Must be proficient with computers, MS Word, Excel, and have the ability to learn new software. Must possess full knowledge of or demonstrated ability to learn GSA rules and regulations and the Guide to Judiciary Policy.
Duties: 
The Personnel Administrator provides the full range of human resources management services to office staff. Duties will include compensation and benefits management and assisting the Defender and Administrative Officer with all aspects of personnel in order to keep a well-run and pleasant workplace for all employees. Responsibilities include adhering to and knowledge of federal and local personnel practices and procedures. Assist with processing a variety of human resources and payroll actions such as appointments, promotions, separations, and changes to benefits elections. Assist with recruitment efforts, such as preparing and distributing announcements, coordinating interviews, and conducting reference checks. Track and enter time sensitive data. Maintaining leave and timekeeping records.

Salary and Benefits: 
Starting salary for this position is expected to begin at Grade 11 ($63,815). This position is subject to mandatory Electronic Funds Transfer (direct deposit) for payment of salary. Full federal benefits apply to this position. As with all positions with the federal public defender, this is an at-will appointment that may be terminated by the Defender at any time, with or without cause.
